Astrophysical Fast Radio Bursts: the plasma physics frontier
Fast Radio Bursts are millisecond flashes of radio emission of extraordinary brightness, most likely produced by magnetars. Understanding how such coherent, relativistically strong radio waves are generated, and how they escape the dense magnetized plasma around the star, pushes plasma physics into a new regime.

This talk is the official seminar of the Research Center for Astronomy and Applied Mathematics. It is independent of the course: you are welcome to attend the seminar only, or the seminar and the course.
The two-day course goes deeper into the physics touched on in the seminar: relativistic MHD and force-free plasmas, coherent emission, and relativistically strong waves. Syllabus →
